About Us
Our aim has always been to make creative and interactive theatre, drama based parties and events for children. We want to ignite children’s imaginations, promote teamwork and create lots and lots of fun throughout.
2018: Our unique parties were born
We set off providing party entertainment across the UK and then shortly afterwards began hosting the Friday morning preschool class at York Theatre Royal and so, Crafty Tales was born.
2019: We put on quite a show at Beningbrough Hall
We started running more of our craft and storytelling sessions across Yorkshire creating fantastic partnerships with Goose of Harrogate and Rural Arts in Thirsk, running weekly classes as well as special holiday events.
Our Partnerships continued to grow, and in 2019 we were absolutely thrilled to write and devise a new piece for Beningbrough Hall, part of the magnificent National Trusts.
2020: Storytelling with the big man himself
2020 brought with it, new . . . if not a little surprising, opportunities. We were very lucky to have ongoing support of our story craft family and friends, locally and internationally. And continued providing birthday parties and Crafty Tales online; as well as a sell-out Halloween show. Our charity event at the end of November was a huge success and we managed raise over £2000 for the wonderful Shine21 organisation.
We finished 2020 being part of Christmas at one of the most magnificent historic buildings here in North Yorkshire, Castle Howard. Storyelling with the big man himself.
2021: From Fairytales to Dinosaurs
2021 gave us a whole host of new collaborations. We worked with Spilman Farm creating an exciting dinosaurs exhibition as well as devising an engaging and educational show for Kiplin Hall and Gardens. We performed twice at the Mill Theatre in Stillington and started a new Crafty Tales session on Thursday at Theatre@41.
We were thrilled to be back a Castle Howard for some Summer crafty tales fun as well as more wonderful Storytelling with Santa over Christmas.
2022: Even bigger adventures
2022 came and went incredibly quickly. We were delighted to continue our storytelling sessions at York Theatre Royal and Theatre@41 as well as heading out to more schools across North Yorkshire.
For summer we were back again at Kiplin Hall and Spilman Farm and were delighted to be part of the Deershed festival as well as taking part in special pop up events at SPARK:York and White Skye Fields.
We had tours of our Once Upon a Fairytale show and our Halloween Production Bat, Cackle and Pop with the wonderful On Tour, Rural Arts.
To finish it all off we were incredibly chuffed to be back at Castle Howard Courtyard Grotto for some magical Christmas experiences.
2023: It's all so exciting!!
2023 kicked off with us winning another wonderful Little Vikings award....4 years in a row!
We created 3 new shows; The Untold story of the Queen of Hearts, The Big Pirate Party and 'This Tree Belongs to Me!'. We're looking forward to take the last one out on tour in 2024.
We also had some great fun during the summer at some cracking festivals, including our first outing at TOTfest! Plus a loadof Halloween adventures during Autumn.
We finished the year with 3 separtate Christmas events at York Castle Museum, Theatre@41 and more magical Grotto action at Castle Howard.
2024: A year to grow
We continued to grow throughout 2024 building new partnerships with Sledmere House and Gardens, Newby Hall, Burnley Mechanics, Culturapedia, Wonder Arts, Chichester Festival Theatre, Rotherham Civic Theatre, Danby Lodge, and across Yorkshire libraries and more and more schools.
We took a new show 'This Tree Belongs to Me!' out on tour and even managed to create a totally new Christmas show called 'The Enormous Christmas Pudding'. We really loved making this show. It not only touches on some keem messages about working together and making the most of what you have; it's filled to the brim with puppets. All made by us and using 85% or recycled and recycable materials. Sustainability is smething we're looking to develop further into our work..as well as more puppet making!!
2025: Makaton Friendly
We're pleased as punch to now be an offical Makaton Friendly organistaion. It has been a big part of our work for a while and it's great to get this amazing communication program further out into the world.
We've been back over the West of England working with Culturapedia and Wonder Arts. Plus we were super happy to be back at Chichester Festvial Theatre. Looking forward to a summer of fun.
